Opal Catherine Gryder

Funeral services for Opal Catherine Gryder will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Tuskegee Cemetery in Okfuskee Cemetery. Opal Catherine Gryder was born September 19, 1926 in Walden, Arkansas to George Washington Roberts and Liddie Luellen (Box) Roberts. She passed away, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Okemah at the age of 82. Mrs. Gryder moved to the Okemah area when she was 14. Before that she grew up in Arkansas which she loved very much. She and Jodie Gryder were married June 1, 1945 in Okfuskee County at the Last Chance area. In 1973 she retired from the Ferguson Garment Factory in Pharoah after many years of employment. Mrs. Gryder was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 sons, Billie Joe, Jerry Wayne, James, and Bobby Lee Gryder; and 9 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband Jodie Gryder of Weleetka; four sons, Jackie R. Gryder and wife Connie of Wetumka, Tommy Gryder of Weleetka, Randy Gryder and wife Wayna of Weleetka, and Freddie Gryder of Wewoka; two daughters, Dora Faye Lynam and husband Bob of Weleetka and Catherine Kidd of Forum, Arkansas; one sister in law, Edna Roberts of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren, Connie Meadors and husband Mike of Okemah, Josetta Evans and husband Phillip of Bixby, Quinton Kidd and wife Wanda of Wagoner, Kevin Kidd and wife Adrienne of Pryor, Sonja Yates and husband Miles of Forum, Arkansas, Tracy Sumpka and husband Gary of Henryetta, Jackie Ray Gryder Jr. of Wetumka, Brandon Gryder and wife Sammie of Henryetta, Merideth Neal and Lorin Neal of Coweta, and Katrina and Josh Jacob also of Coweta; 13 great-grandchildren, Sara Baker, Shelby Evans, Beyer Evans, Shannon Yates, Chevy Yates, Chad Kidd, Renee Kidd, Kayla Gryder, Andrew Sumpka, Kelsey Neal, Kaithryn Jacob, Micha Jabob, and Brennon Neal; 5 step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Pallbearers will be Tim Williams, Guy Shenemen, Quinton Kidd, Jackie Gryder Jr., Brandon Gryder, Cody Gryder, and Lorin Neal. Honorary Bearers include: Eddie Edwards, Tony Edwards, Mike Meadors, Phillip Evans, Miles Yates, Gary Sumpka, David Henley, and Beyer Evans. Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Archie Warren and assisted by Rev. Don Baker.
