Maydean Lovelady

Funeral Services for Maydean Lovelady will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Okemah, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Weleetka Cemetery in Weleetka, Oklahoma. Maydean Lovelady, former resident of Okemah, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Columbia, SC. She was 95 years young. Maydean was born in Weleetka, OK, on July 6, 1919 to the late Nevada and Lula Belle Rappe She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Wayne Lovelady. Her sisters Myra Cleaver, Mary Baker, Jewel Ellison, Ada Bacon, Opal New, Lillian Dennis; brothers Carl Rappe, Roy Rappe and Nevada Rappe, Jr. Her beloved grandsons Lon Wayne Goodspeed and Dane Tolson. Survivors are her four children; Alleene (Curtis) Holland of Columbia, SC; Brenda Goodspeed, Norman, OK, Stanton Lovelady, San Francisco, CA, and Jeanie Lovelady, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Cheryl (Doug Quackenbush)Holland, Kyle(Wendy) Holland, Lori(John) Eikel, David (Julie) Goodspeed, Chanel(Sebastian) Katic. Eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law Helen Rappe, Oklahoma City and Norma Rappe , Okemah. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her. Those who knew Maydean would describe her as a self-sacrificing, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Known to her family as Mimi, she cherished every precious minute she spent loving them. Her God given gift was to make everyone feel special and loved. She was gifted, generous and energetic during her years spent in Okemah and could do “just about anything.” She helped give many baby and wedding showers at the First Baptist Church. She worked tirelessly as a home room mother during her children’s elementary school years. As they entered middle and high school, she was president of the band mothers during which time she helped raise funds for new band uniforms. She was a gifted seamstress and made costumes for many school plays, football queen gowns and even a wedding gown for her daughter that was loaned out to anyone in Okemah who was a size 8. After moving to Seminole, she made many new friends including the sister of Woody Guthrie. She and Mary Jo traveled all over Oklahoma visiting schools to educate children about the legacy of Woody. She loved her time as a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole. Her freezer was always full of cakes, pies and casseroles to take to anyone in need of a beautiful smile and a HUG! There will never be another Maydean. As she was on her way to heaven, a great-great grandson was born to join the Lovelady family. We will celebrate her life and his birthday on the same day every year. The memories of her and her wonderful siblings will be with her family forever. Serving as active pallbearers will be DeLoss McGraw, Cutter Goodspeed, John Eikel, Tyler Ford, Lance Warn, Nick Lambeth and Justin Eikel. Honorary bearers include Curtis Holland, Kyle Holland, David Goodspeed and Joe Baker. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Lawrence Matlock. Family will greet friends at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Tuesday, March 10th, 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
