Gene Speir

Funeral services for Gene Speir will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Highland Cemetery Gazebo. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Frank Eugene Speir was born January 15, 1937 in Okemah to Frank and Elizabeth Carnes Speir. He passed from this life, Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Okemah at the age of 75. Gene was a 1955 graduate of Okemah High School. He continued his education at Okmulgee Tech studying welding. He and Teddy Kay Thompson were married July 29, 1961 in Okemah and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2011. To this union, Thompson Eugene and Terry Linn Speir were born. Gene coached American Legion Baseball for several years and was very active in the American Legion Post 123 having been commander for 4 years. He was also awarded legionnaire of the year plus various other awards over the years. Gene spent most of his life working in the natural gas industry, passing on his knowledge to his sons and grandsons. He worked as master compressor mechanic for Mustang Fuel Corporation in Oklahoma City, head of accounting, the OK Highway Dept. and Schulter Gathering for 15 years. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Teddy Kay Speir of the home north of Okemah in the Welty and Mason area; two sons, Thompson Speir and wife Gina; Terry Speir and wife Nancy Lynn; grandsons, Brandon Speir and wife Emily; Jordon Speir and wife Shannon; Alex Speir, Tucker Speir and Joshua Speir who all reside in Okfuskee County except Alex who resides in Boston, Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Keelie, Kodie, Jameson and Isabella Speir; one brother, Charles Speir and wife Betty of Allen, Oklahoma; and four sisters, Kay Moore and husband Ernie of Eufaula; Judy Powell and husband Jay of Okmulgee, Sue Aber and husband Hal of McAlester and Sallie Speir Wright of Alabama. Serving as active pallbearers will be: Brandon, Jordon, Alex, Tucker, Joshua, Tyler, Mark and Jameson Speir. Honorary bearers will be members of the American Legion. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Dr. Roger Thompson and assisted by Ron Gott.
