Derek D. Douglas

A memorial service for Derek Douglas will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Cowboy Crossroads Church of Okemah with Bro. Terry Edminsten officiating. Derek Dean Douglas was born December 7, 1961 in Fresno, California, to Stanley Earl and Delores (Conley) Douglas. Derek gained his heavenly wings at the age of 62, January 11, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his family. Derek was a 1981 graduate of Okemah High School. After high school Derek worked at one of the local convenience stores until his turned 21. In 1983, Derek pursued his career at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections where he was a faithful servant for 20 years. February 14, 1985, he married Jody (Stallings) Crain where he gained 2 bonus children, Jeremy and Shalyn Crain. They later divorced in September of 1986. Derek met Kathy Douglas in 1988. They married and were blessed with two children. November 9, 1990, they welcomed Stanely Douglas into the world. June 25, 1992, they welcomed Jessie Douglas into the world. They later divorced in December 16, 1999. Derek later met his lifelong partner, Linda Witt and they married June 11, 2001. During Derek’s career at DOC, he met one of his lifelong friends (brother as he called him), Patrick Roberts. Derek took Pat under his wing and showed him the ins and outs of the prison and how to be a loyal correctional officer. They were there for each other during the good and bad times over the past 24 years. Derek loved his family more than anything, he loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandbabies and his fishing buddy Pat. Derek loved to collect guns of all kinds, especially the favorite one named “the judge”. After retiring in 2003 from DOC, Derek spent a lot of his time at his favorite fishing spot, “frog spot”, and camping with his family. Chances are, if you ran into Derek there would be some type of prank or joke coming that would leave you laughing until your belly hurt or you couldn’t breathe. Derek loved his long hair, but he loved donating it even more. For the past few years, Derek and Linda weren’t able to enjoy the things they loved to do due to health issues, but they made the best of it. Derek was loved by many, and his family will deeply miss him, but they know he is completely healed and reunited with his loved ones in heaven. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Earl and Delores Douglas and brother, George Edwin Douglas (Eddie). Survivors include his wife, Linda Douglas of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Stanley Douglas of Bristow; son, Jessie Douglas of Weleetka; one daughter, Shaylyn Jay and husband Darryl of Haskell; son, Jeremy Crain and wife Tiffany of Porter; son, Billy Jack Stewart of Konawa; one brother, Michael Douglas of Sacramento, California and one sister, Donna Douglas Boone of Fresno, California. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma.
