David Leon Ross

Funeral services for David Leon Ross will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Skyview Baptist Church in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. David Ross was born May 22, 1946 in Haydonville, Oklahoma to Charlie and Ada Lois Ross. He passed away Thursday, May 26, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 71. David was a longtime resident of Okemah and a graduate of Mason High School. He and Dorothy Adams were married July 22, 1966 in Mason, Oklahoma. David worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and retired from there after 33 years. He was also a member of the Oklahoma National Guard where he spent time as a Staff Sargent. David was very proud of his service and was a strong supporter of the United States and their troops. In retirement, David joined the Okemah American Legion Post 123 and spent some time there serving as the Post Commander. David was also a member of the Okfuskee County Fair Board for many years. He held several offices, including terms in which he was elected President. David also served the community of Okemah for many years by being very active in the Okemah Little League and the Okemah Community Improvement Association. David was very active in the planning, development and building of the softball fields currently used by Okemah High School. David was also a member of the East Central Limousin Association. He held multiple offices, including president for this organization as well. David loved operating his cattle operation with his wife Dorothy. He also was a member of the Morse Missionary Baptist Church. David was an avid sports fan of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals, the Oklahoma Sooners and the OKC Thunder. His favorite team, though, was the Okemah Panther Baseball Team coached by his son Matt. David had a few more loves in his life and that was his other son Michael and his two grandchildren, Jameson and Jadyn. David loved to take his family vacationing in Branson and watching his grandchildren participate in all their activities. David was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Ross and sisters, Rita Gahm and Charlene Haddox. Survivors include his mother, Ada Lois Ross of Okemah; his wife, Dorothy Ross of the home in Okemah; two sons, Michael Ross of the home and Matt Ross of Okemah; grandchildren, Jameson and Jadyn Ross of Okemah; brother in law, Johnny Haddox of Okemah, nieces, Carla Haddox of Tulsa, Dana Wilson and husband Eric of Okemah; nephews, J.C. Haddox and wife Relena of Okemah, Kurt Titsworth and wife Janet of Okemah, Kevin Titsworth of Okemah and Justin Gahm and wife Amanda of Henryetta; great nephews, Cody Haddox and wife Arin of Tulsa, Jordan Chase Haddox, Nick Haddox, Sam Wilson, Ryan Titsworth, Austin Titsworth and Kaleb Titsworth all of Okemah; brother in law, Raymond Adams and wife Frankie of Mason, Cotton and Helen Adams of Okemah; sister in law, Wilma and Floyd Farley of Cushing, Carolyn and Eugene Cheatwood of Okemah and Ina Mae Teafatiller of Canyon City, Colorado and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be his nephews which he loved so dearly; Kevin Farley, Bobby Farley, Mark Clark, J.C. Haddox, Justin Gahm, Rusty Adams, Ricky Adams, Randy Adams, Kurt Titsworth and Kevin Titsworth. Honorary bearers include Charles Shepard, Leon McVeigh, Ronnie Titsworth, David Potts, Terry Linville, Bill Clark, Danny Winchester, Denny Edwards, Terry Osborn and Don Ragsdale. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma and officiated by Bro. Rick McVeigh and Bro. David Hamilton. Donations in memory of David can be made to the Okemah Baseball Program.
