Vera Mae Hinkle

Funeral services for Vera Mae Hinkle will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Castle Cemetery. Vera Mae Reed Hinkle went to Heaven to meet Jesus and her husband on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. She came into this world on July 29, 1935, the 7th of 10 children of Garland Reed and Lura Patrick Reed. She was born in the community of Buckeye, northwest of Okemah, the daughter of a sharecropper on the Martin family farm. Vera graduated from Okemah High School in 1954 and went to work directly after for the Martin Family Bank. She retired from the Martin Family Okemah National Bank in January 1998. Vera married her true love Billy Joe Hinkle on February 12, 1955, and to this union one son Joel “Joe” Wade Hinkle was born. Vera was saved her sophomore year of high school and later baptized with her son and was a very proud member of the Castle Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading old western novels, watching OU football and softball, but her greatest pastime was making memories with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Hinkle; Sisters: Elma “Susie” Reed Hinesley (Onis); Baby Reed; Lucille Reed McEntire (Thomas); Brothers: Elson “Son” Reed (Pauline); Millard Reed (Betty); Arlison Reed; R.C. Reed (Mary); and Wayne Reed (Charlene); in-laws: Claude and Berchie Mae Hinkle; brothers-in-law: Bobby Ray Hinkle, Earl Lee Hinkle; sister-in-law: Claudette Hinkle Harmon (Bill); and nephew Billy Bob Harmon. Very special surviors: son, Joel “Joe” Wade Hinkle and wife Pam “Sam,” of Castle; granddaughter Megan Hinkle LeGrand and husband Pat, of Okemah; grandson, Chance Wade Hinkle and wife Kim, of Castle; special great grandchildren: Morgan LeGrand, Maverick Reed LeGrand, Emma Mae Hinkle, Brylee Jo LeGrand, Bo Wade Hinkle, Timber Brooke LeGrand, and Bonnie Belle Hinkle, one great-great grandchild: Rylee. Vera is also survived by one brother Arlis Reed and wife Anna, nieces and nephews, a host of friends and special nursing home family. Serving as pallbearers will be Chance Hinkle, Pat LeGrand, Rusty Adams, Joel Vanderslice, Brice Callahan, and Ted Carter.
