Thelma Juanita Collier

Funeral services for Thelma Juanita Collier will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Freewill Baptist Church in Okemah, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. At 12:25 AM, January 15, 2016, Thelma “Juanita” (Kinslow) Collier entered into the gates of heaven, greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ. Also waiting for her the past eight years, was her husband, Albert Lee Collier. She entered this life, August 23, 1919 west of Okemah in the Excelsior community. She passed from this life at the age of 96 years and 6 months. She has been a resident of the Colonial Park Nursing Home for the past six months. At the nursing home; she and her friend Maxine Geller raced up and down the halls pushing their walkers until Maxine had an accident and broke her hip and then Granny had a fall and broke her hip. She was known by people by the name of Granny. One of her concerns for her family was that everyone had plenty of warm covers at night. Being a “get it done” person, work was not a stranger to her. There was nothing she would not try. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, baking pies and cakes and spending a lot of time fishing. Ice cream was her favorite food. She loved to go to church and was a great pastor’s wife. She was a member of the Okemah Free Will Baptist Church in Okemah. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Calvin and Florence Kinslow; three brothers, baby Virgil Kinslow, Guy Kinslow and Manton Kinslow; one sister, Audry Kinslow Madole and the love of her life, her husband, Albert Lee Collier. Survivors include her daughter, Alnita Collier Young and husband Frank of Ardmore, Oklahoma; her son, Loy Collier and wife Paula of Okemah; two brothers, Dale Kinslow of Norman and Marvin Kinslow of Terrell, Texas; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 (and soon to be 7) great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who were all very precious to her. She is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends. Serving as active pallbearers will be Randy Collier, Dylan Smith, Chandler Smith, Aaron Williamson, Joe Legako and Donald Smith. Honorary bearers include: Clyde Walker, Danny Rutland, Alan Banta, Joseph Walker and Jamie Perry. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by son-in-law, Frank Young.
