Sibyl Lorene Wilson

Funeral services for Sibyl Lorene Wilson will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Okemah Church of Christ. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Sibyl Lorene Wilson was born December 21, 1922 in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma to James C. and Minta (Bennett) Jones. She passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 86. Mrs. Wilson had been a resident of the Okfuskee County area most all of her life. She and E. D. Wilson were married December 12, 1943 in Okfuskee County. Mrs. Wilson retired after more than 35 years of being an elementary school teacher. In the Okfuskee County area, she taught at McAwber School, Castle and at Mason Schools. She also taught and coached girls basketball at Oriental School which was a one room school for the 1st through 8th grade; the Bearden School and later with Butner School before retirement. She touched thousands of children through her teaching career and was very proud and passionate about her work. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed working with her husband with their cattle. She and E.D. were named Okfuskee County Farm Family of the Year; they were members of the American Limousine Cattlemen’s Association, and the Okfuskee County Cattlemen’s Association. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Oklahoma and Okfuskee County Retired Teachers Association, En Avant Book Review Group, the Okfuskee County and Sunrise Extension Homemakers Association, and a devoted member of the Okemah Church of Christ. Mrs. Wilson was a loving mother and wife of 65 years and will be dearly missed by all who knew her She is preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Minta Jones, one sister, Dorothy Fulsom; one infant brother; and one son in law, Bryce Hodges; and a special, Aunt Bernice Jones. Survivors include her husband E.D. Wilson of Okemah and one daughter, Judy Hodges of Bartlesville; and one niece Theresa Pelley and husband Leon of Okemah. Active Pallbearers will be: Lyndol Wilson, Larry Wilson, Dewayne Wilson, Darrell Wilson, Stott Pelley, and Hoyt Gibson. Honorary Bearers include: John Ford, Bob Cofer, Leland Scrimshire, Tommy Goff, and Charles Hair. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Michael Grigsby and assisted by Bobby Green.
