Robert Walker Miracle

Memorial services for Robert Walker Miracle will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Okemah. Robert Walker Miracle was born January 12, 1932 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Jess I. Miracle and Harvey Mary McCoy. He entered into eternity on August 5th, 2010 at the age of 78. Robert is a descendent of an old pioneer family of Oklahoma. His paternal grandmother and grandfather were in Oklahoma as early as 1885. After graduating from Okemah High School; he attended the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a bachelors degree in Fine Arts. Throughout his career he was always involved with the arts and design. During his many years on the west coast he worked for a number of design and manufacturing firms. Among them were, Franciscan Pottery where he designed and oversaw production of a number of dinner services. He also worked for Luterpace and Wesley Allen where, among other things, he designed furniture and showroom design and construction for professional marketing shows. Among some of his proudest accomplishments were his works in design for Mr. Walt Disney. He also oversaw the design and installation of murals on the façade of the Hawaiian Hilton in Honolulu. After his return to Oklahoma to help care for his mother; he embanked upon his second career in education with Platt College in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. He began instructing in interior design. After he finished his instructional career he worked as Director of Student Services, Director of Education, and Director of Support Services. During his time at Platt College he touched the lives of uncounted students and faculty members. Robert was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as Chairman of the Church Board and as a deacon. For a number of years his organ playing brought meaning and beauty to every service. He was also a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee. While attending there he sang in the choir and provided music for Taize services. Robert also was a member of the Society of Mary and the Alter Guild. He enjoyed his times, especially when in the kitchen, working with Craig to prepare gourmet meals for members of the church. He was also a founding member of Okemah on Stage where his sense of design and artistry produced some of the most beautiful and lavish set designs imaginable. Among his chief loves were his pets, especially Bubu his beloved Pharoah Hound. When he left us, Robert was met by his mother and father and nephew Kyle Patrick Adams. He is survived by his sister Patsy and her husband Lee Pickens; his nieces, Mary and Edward Coyle and their children, Alexander and Adrian; Katherine and Grady Adams and their children, Kaitlin and Logan; and Laura and Lonnie Joeand their children, Madison and Eriq. Robert is also survived by his life partner of over 20 years, Craig McMahan. Contributions, in Robert’s memory, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the First Christian Church of Okemah at PO Box 527, Okemah, OK 74859. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Jeannie McMahan and Rev. Clark Shackelford.
