Paul W. Maxwell

Funeral services for Paul W. Maxwell will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Paul Watkins Maxwell, a lifelong resident of Okemah, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Okemah at the age of 84. He was born February 16, 1927 in Okemah to Dr. Harold and Ellen (Watkins) Maxwell. Paul and Leona Piearcy were united in marriage, July 21, 1957 in Okemah. The couple was blessed with three children. Paul was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Okemah and was on the board of trustees for three years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than fifty years having earned his 50 yr. pin in 1998. Paul was also a member of the Okemah American Legion, Okfuskee County Historical Society and Eastern Star where he served as past Worthy Patron. He served his county in the United States National Guard from 1955 – 58. Paul worked for many years at the Jewel Walk In and Drive In Theatres and the Crystal Theatre. He also worked for John Deere. He retired from Okemah Public Schools having served as a custodian for 22 years. After retiring, he spent his days playing dominoes and shooting nine ball with his friends at the Senior Citizen Center and drinking coffee at the Sooner Drug. Paul loved visiting with everyone he met. His family was his pride and joy and he loved spending time with them. He especially loved Thanksgiving when the whole family would travel to McAlester to spend the day with his sister, Margaret Allen and her family. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Amos Maxwell and one sister, Margaret Allen. Survivors include his loving wife, Leona of Okemah and three children, Delinda Barr and friend Mike Barlow of Shawnee, Fred Maxwell of Okemah and Pam Adams of Okemah. Four grandchildren, Shakara Stone and husband Richard of Paden, Christy Sorrels of Norman, Christopher Barr of Palm Bay, Florida and Anthony Maxwell of Okemah. One step granddaughter, Melody Scott and husband Doug of Magnolia, Arkansas. Eight great-grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew Stone, Tanner Been, Jaycee Sorrels, Jonathon and Brooke Glover; and two step great-grandchildren, Octavia and Trevor Scott. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Steve Stone.
