Olen D. Edwards

Funeral services for Olen D. Edwards will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the United Pentecostal Church in Okemah. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Olen Devern was born July 15, 1923 in the Morse Community of Okfuskee County to Otie and Lillie (Campbell) Edwards. He passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at the age of 87. Olen had been a resident of the Okemah area most all of his life. He attended Mason High School and later California State University in Sacramento, California. Olen served his country with the United States Army during WWII. He was a retired minister and also a retired employee of the City of Okemah. Olen and Oma Lee Stacy were married November 30, 1979 in Okemah. Olen was a very gifted singer / songwriter and musician. He was also a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers since 1965. Olen was a longtime member of the United Pentecostal Church of Okemah. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Juanita (1979); his daughter, Janice Griffith (1978); one step daughter, Sharron Sands; one infant son, Jimmy; and one great-grandson. Survivors include his wife Oma Edwards of the home; three daughters, Cherry D. “Doll” Cline and husband Ronnie of Lindsey, OK, Charlotte and Bill Kenneda of Seminole and Sandra Coldren of Seminole; one brother, Denny Edwards and wife Phyllis of Okemah; two sisters, Irene Burnett of Okemah and Dorothy Neal of Henryetta; 9 grandchildren, Tonia Lightner of North Carolina, Jennifer Morgan and Stephanie Greninger of Sapulpa; Chad Cruce, Brandon Cline and Brett Cline of Lindsey; James and Bill Cody Kenneda of Okemah; and Nicole Rosson of Broken Arrow; and 22 great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be: Walter Dearman, Albert Dearman, Ben Haynes, Rick Beasley, Donnie Beasley and Tony Brown. Honorary Bearers include: Leroy Gates, Leland Scrimshire, Roscoe Neal, Larry Long, Fiddlin’ Pete, Steven Stone, Richard Stone and Stanley Stone. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Matthew Martin, Rev. David Shatwell and Rev. Rick Beasley.
