Mildred I. Been

Funeral services for Mildred Been will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Okemah, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Welty Cemetery. Mildred I. Been was born July 8, 1933 in Inola, Oklahoma to Frank and Lottie (Bousman) Tinker. She passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at her home in Okemah at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Been was a resident of the Okemah area since 1958. She and Derel Been were married December 1, 1950 in Kerman, California; he later preceded her in death December 30, 2006. Mrs. Been was an owner and operator of Been Brothers Construction Company. With this company, the Been’s were very instrumental in the Okfuskee County area - building many roads, lakes, dams, and helping to develop places such as the Okemah Lake and the Okemah Golf Course. Mildred enjoyed reading, working puzzles, spending time with her family, baking, watching birds and teaching everyone she met how to play canasta. She also enjoyed the regular moon tournaments at the Okemah Golf Course. Mildred was a devoted member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Okemah. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three siblings, Mayme Luttrull, Viola Snyder and Wilma Dority and one son, Timothy D. Been. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Been of Okemah; one brother, Donald Frank Tinker and wife Tess of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Shakara Stone and husband Richard of Paden, Christy Sorrels of Prague, Dr. Nicole Been of Okemah, Tara Been of Okemah and Joshua Been and wife Courtney of Oklahoma City. Six great-grandchildren, Tanner Been of Springfield, Missouri, Jaycee Sorrels of Des Moines, Iowa, Nathan Stone of Paden, Matthew Stone of Paden, Brooke Glover of Prague and Kamden Been of Okemah. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Been, Mark Been, Lonnie Been, Kevin Been, David Dyer, and Mackey Casey. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma and officiated by Rev. Brian Matthews. Online condolences may be made at www.ParksBrothersFuneralHome.com.
