Leona H. Zink

Funeral services for Leona H. Zink will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church near Okemah. Interment will follow at the Thlopthlocco Church Cemetery. Wake services will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:00 PM at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Leona Zink was born April 1, 1940 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Cheparney Harjo and Lillie (Deere) Harjo. She passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 in Oklahoma City at the age of 73. Leona was a resident of the Okemah area most of her life. She graduated from Bearden High School in 1958 and later from Baylor Nursing School and worked for Indian Health Services along with numerous hospitals, medical care facilities and private care. She and Roger William Zink were married December 7, 1963 in Juarez, Mexico; he preceded her in death in 1989. She and her family lived in many places following Roger’s career in the U.S. Air Force. Leona was also a lifetime member of the Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church. She was the current U.M.W. local president and past district spiritual life resources chairperson. She was also a Pastor Parish Relations committee chairman. Through her guidance, love and teaching; she played a vital role in producing many pastors and lay speakers out of her nephews and son in law. She enjoyed quilting, crafting, reading and studying the bible and serving others. Leona will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, Ben Harjo, Allen Yargee and Jimmie Johnson; and one sister, Ida McGeeley. Survivors include her son, Glenn Zink and wife Lisa of Chickasha; her daughter, Daphne Baker and husband Donald of Okemah; one sister, Bessie Fixico of Holdenville, Oklahoma; one sister in law, Jamie Yargee of Little Axe, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Sara Baker and husband David of Enid, Grace Hounsell and husband Garid of Conway, New Hampshire, Dakota Crase and wife Brittany of Owasso, Jonah Baker of Okemah, Jacob Baker of Okemah, Noah Baker of Okemah and Nathaniel Zink of Chickasha; three great-grandchildren, Jorjie Blu Henley, Justin Jack Crase and Reuben Booth Hounsell. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many many friends. Serving as active pallbearers will be Jonah and Jacob Baker, Johnnie Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Lewis McGeeley, Randall Hinkle and Willie and Joshua Yargee. Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Baker, Nathaniel Zink, United Methodist Women and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah with Rev. David Long, Jr., Rev. David Little, Rev. Donald Baker and Chaplain Sam Garner officiating.
