Inez Smith Hall

Funeral services for Inez Smith Hall will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Okemah Church of Christ. Inez Smith Hall was born on March 26, 1915, in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, on a farm between Weleetka and Wetumka (Hickory Ridge) to Thomas "Tom" Smith, Sr. and Edna Johnson Smith. She departed this life on August 2, 2011 at the age of 96. She graduated from Okemah High School with the class of 1935 and then attended Okemah Jr. College. She began her working career in Okemah that lasted more than 60 years. On September 7, 1940, she married Thomas T. "Tom" Hall, and on September 7, 1945, a daughter Charlotte Jane was born. Tom preceded her in death on April 9, 1981. Inez was tireless in her service to her church, her town, and her country. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Okemah Alumni and Education Foundation, Okemah Chamber of Commerce, Creek Nation Hospital Auxiliary, Okemah Hall of Fame, Board of Directors at the Boley Correctional Center and the Democrat Party. She was a delegate from Oklahoma to three National Democratic conventions, received the Mike Synar Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2007, she was named to the State Democratic Activist Hall of Fame. Accomplishments during her lifetime were many, but she was proudest of the annual $1,000 Inez and Tom Hall Scholarship awarded to a graduating senior at Okemah High School and the Okemah Veterans Memorial which she organized and chaired. In addition to her husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, J. O. Smith and R. T. Smith, Jr., sisters Inola Birdwell and Clarabelle Coale, son Richard D. Hall and daughter-in-law Hazel Hall, granddaughter Peggy Hall Faulkner, sisters-in-law Natalie Dossey Smith and Bedie Montgomery Smith, brothers-in-law Earl Coale and Mike Birdwell, nephews Larry Smith, Tom Coale, and Anthony Battaglia. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Jane and Don Cundiff of Georgetown, TX, granddaughters Susan Casey, husband Kevin, Aidan and Miles of Riverside, IL., Linda Hall Michael, husband Barry, Jeff and Melissa, Lititz, PA, Penny Hall Cooper, husband, Gary, Amanda and Taylor, Yukon, OK, Jennifer Cundiff Schwichtenberg, husband John, Jaxon and Sonny, Denison, TX, Grandson Todd Cundiff, Grand Prairie, TX. The families of Jo Frances Thompson and Melba Dinwiddle. The families of Tom, Jim, and Butch Coale. And the families of Jerry, Larry and Mac Smith and Cheryl Smith Foster. Memorials may be made to the: Okemah Alumni Association, Okemah American Legion Auxiliary, Okemah Chamber of Commerce Historical Center and the Okemah Church of Christ. Services will be under the direction of Parks Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Roger Thompson and Richard Foster.
