Edith Marie Dunson

Edith “Edie” Marie Dunson entered into eternal life on Monday, October 6, 2014 at age 75. She was born on April 27, 1939 to Sekice and Martha Robison in Okemah, Ok. Edith was raised and went to school in Okemah. On June 26, 1958 she married Louis “Louie” Dunson. Once married, they lived a short time in Okemah before moving to Brush Colorado where they lived for ten years. In September 1969, they moved to Greeley Colorado. They have called Greeley home for the past forty-five years. She worked for the telephone company in Brush, transferring her job to Greeley. After a thirty two year career with the phone company, Edith retired from U.S. West. Edith and Louis raised their two sons in Greeley. While living and working there, she developed a love for the game of golf. Edith and Louis could be found many days of the week at the golf course playing. Louis taught Edie how to play and she became a very accomplished golfer. She won the ladies club championship six times. She won three at Highland Hills Golf Course and three at Boomerang Links. She was a three-time Match Play Champion at both courses as well as a three time ladies senior champion. The game of golf took them to surrounding states where Edith won a couple of inter-tribal tournaments. She enjoyed playing with her lady friends but found playing with Louis and his friends a fun challenge. She not only played from the same tee markers as the men but could hit the ball as far as most of them and beat them on many occasions. She had five hole-in-ones throughout her years of playing. Two were in tournaments. Edith was a big fan of Oklahoma football. She watched the OU Sooners every Saturday they were on television, making a few games in person over the years. She was also a Denver Broncos fan. If she wasn’t on the golf course on a Sunday afternoon, she was home watching them. Not only did she love the game of golf and watching sports, she loved to sew, making many quilts as gifts for various family members and friends. The true love of Edith’s was her husband, Louis, her sons and grandchildren. Each one held a special place in her heart. If she wasn’t doing something with them, she was doing something for them. She truly enjoyed her retirement years. Between family and her hobbies, Edith’s life was lived to the fullest. Edith is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Louis, two sons, Bill and Patrick, grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsay), Danielle (Steve), Keegan and great grandchildren, Ayden and Remi. A third great-grandchild is due to make his entrance into the world in November. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Sekice and Martha, two sisters, Irene and Kiddie Ruth and two brothers, Kenneth and Samuel. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Greenleaf Indian Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow at the Greenleaf Cemetery.
