Edith Marie Davis

Edith Marie Davis passed away the 22nd of August 2015 at the age of 95. She was born in 1920 in Timbo, Arkansas, to Andrew Jackson (Jack) and Lou Rena Martin. At an early age she moved to Oklahoma with her family in a covered wagon. She married Hobert Lee Davis in 1939 in Okemah, Oklahoma, where they lived and farmed for as long as the crops lasted. During the 40s, they traveled to California twice so that Hobert could find work. When they returned to Okemah, Hobert worked in a produce store on Broadway and Edith would help out on Saturdays when the farmers would bring their produce into town to sell. In 1952 they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, with their two daughters, Linda and Donna. In 1962 they moved to Roseville, California, with their son Marty. In addition to managing the household, Edith did the billing for Hobert’s excavation business. They moved back to Okemah in the 1985 when Hobert retired. Edith was an excellent seamstress and made all her own clothes as well as those for her two daughters while they were growing up. Each year they each started school with five new dresses. She also did crochet, knitting, quilting and even took up painting. Her family has many quilts and paintings that bring back treasured memories. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hobert, her oldest daughter, Linda Lee Davis and six brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Cunniff and her husband Roy, and son, Marty Davis and his wife, Terry. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Cretia Beakley, Doug Davis, Lorna Davis, Ross Cunniff, Danielle Plummer, David Cunniff, Caleb Davis, Luke Davis and Hannah Parsons, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be held at the Morse Cemetery in Okemah, Ok on August 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma. A celebration of life will be held at the Bammel Church of Christ chapel in Houston, Texas, on September 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Unlimited Care for their tireless devotion and loving care, the Bammel Prime Timers for the many visits and cards, and the staff of Rose of Texas Hospice for their guidance and comfort.
