Inola "Nig" Birdwell

Funeral services for Inola “Nig” Birdwell will be held Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Okemah Church of Christ. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Inola (Smith) Birdwell was born March 26, 1915 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Robert Thomas Smith and Mary Edna (Johnson) Smith. She passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in Okemah at the age of 95. Inola attended Okemah High School and has lived in the Okemah area most of her life. After graduating from Beauty School she was an instructor at the Okmulgee Beauty College. She continued this profession in Okemah for approximately 30 years until she closed her business to care for her father. After her father’s death; Inola began working in different capacities in the Okemah School System. She worked until she was 82 years of age. Inola was a member of the Okemah Church of Christ and loved spending time with her family, especially her sisters and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, J.O. (Cotton) Smith and R. T. Smith; two sister in laws, Natalie Dossie Smith and Bedie Montgomery Smith; two brother in laws, Earl Coale and Tommy Hall; and two nephews, Larry Smith and Dr. Tommy Coale. She is survived by her two sisters; Inez Hall (her twin sister) of Georgetown, Texas and Clara Belle Coale of Okemah; two daughters, Jo Frances Thompson and husband Mack of Okemah and Melba Jean Dinwiddie and husband Bob of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jeff Rollings and wife Cindy of Kansas City, Missouri, Marc Rollings and wife Laura of Treasure Island, Florida, Todd Thompson and wife Patty of Sapulpa and Kim Green and husband Billy of Henryetta. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Leslie Green Jones and husband Casey of Claremore, Kent Green and wife Denae of Henryetta, Luke Thompson of Stillwater, Corby Ray and Lance Thompson of Minot, North Dakota, Dylan Page of Stillwater, Carly Thompson of Sapulpa, Joey Rollings and wife Kari of Edwardsville, Kansas and Lindsey Rollings of Treasure Island, FL; one great-great-grandson, Traber Dale Jones of Claremore, OK; and one great-great granddaughter, Julia Rollings of Edwardsville, KS She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Inola’s grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers. The family of Mrs. Birdwell suggests donations be made to the Youth Group at the Okemah Church of Christ. Services under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Dr. Roger Thompson and Travis Campbell, minister of the Okemah Church of Christ.
